LEED AP Certification

Wed, 13 May 09 11:36:47 -0700

Andrew recently completed his United States Green Building Council LEED AP Certification.

This makes him one of just a few LEED Certified professionals in our area.

“I have always felt strongly about the principles that the USGBC now promotes, and I was increasingly fatigued with what being passed off as ‘green/sustainable certification’ by various organizations” Pawlowski says. He added “The LEED process is unique in that it is not tied to particular products or trades, but certifies “green” using independent standards in a way that approaches the building as an integrated whole, not just a building that happens to have a couple of sustainable products in it.”

Finally, Pawlowski notes, “The greatest satisfaction in the effort to prepare for the exam was learning how easy some of the goals are to achieve, how something so simple as the building’s orientation and allowing for day-lighting can change the cost of operating the building over time, and how increased ventilation and indoor air quality have not only physical health implications, but have resulted in measurable results in occupant well-being and employee productivity.  Also, even if an owner doesn’t elect to pursue the USGBC certification, I have expanded knowledge to incorporate selected principals in a way that suits the project, its site, and its users without significant added cost.”

Congratulations Andrew!

Arnold Residence

Wed, 11 Feb 09 10:28:13 -0800

I recently visited the Arnold's at their home that we completed in 2008.  We had a small electrical issue to resolve as well as a small issue with the flooring in the master bathroom.  The place is starting to look "lived in" which is always such a treat to see after so long in design and construction.

Peter had recently completed a couple of his famous Calder-like mobiles that were hanging from the loft ceiling.  One - my personal favorite - was made it brightly colored japanese fishing bobbers.  They created a very colorful, playful and fragile composition.

The gardens are starting to come into their own, the carport is getting organized and there were stories of pomegranates from the  trees transplanted from the old farm as well as a quick tour of the winter vegetable garden - cauliflower, broccoli and leafy greens.

Sarah (as always) had treats for me, the kids and the office - Ginger snap cookies fresh from the oven.  The house seems to be working out very well - both humans and dogs are loving their new place!

Thu, 20 Nov 08 08:32:32 -0800

Siteline and two other architects were chosen to Interview for Community Recovery Resources (CoRR) new Campus to be located on Sierra College Blvd. in Grass Valley.

The Campus would consist of a 10,000sf  administration and support building as well as a number of residential buildings that would provide shelter for their clients.

After our experience designing and monitoring the construction of the nearly 30,000sf Hospice of the Foothills facility we feel like we would be a perfect fit.

Gerngross 2nd Dwelling Unit

Fri, 26 Sep 08 14:26:43 -0700

Siteline has been working with Frances Gerngross to convert a 1000sf garage into a modern apartment. The floor plan provides a great room design with bar seating at the semi-circular island in the kitchen as well as a spacious and elegant contemporary living room with a wall mounted gas fired fireplace.  The cabinets in the kitchen are mahogany, the floors are bamboo.  The back-splashes in the kitchen will be stainless steel.

We continued a curvilinear design throughout the floor plan in order to make the small spaces more interesting.  Our goal was to create interesting sufaces in a small area.  Each room has it's own unique footprint which keeps the voumes interesting without a lot of design clutter.

Here are a few images of the mostly finished project.

Burke Kitchen Remodel

Tue, 02 Sep 08 09:05:16 -0700

This project consisted of "modernizing" three bathrooms, a laundry room, and a kitchen/family room area. The finishes were tyical Nevada County contractor grade and Roseanne wanted to bring it into the 21st century. Her choices of Silestone and Richlite countertops, glass tile and cork and bamboo flooring make for a very clean contemporary look while still keeping with the architecture of the home.

Here are some before and after pictures of the kitchen. More to come as the bathroom and laundryroom get photographed.

Hospice of the Foothills

Fri, 29 Aug 08 17:44:51 -0700

Hospice of the foothills is progressing nicely. The exterior and majority of the landscaping is complete so the project is looking great.

The office side of the building is also substantially complete and will be the first part of the building to be inhabited. The patient rooms will be finished as donor dollars roll in.

Go to www.hofo.org to see ways to donate to the project. They are selling personalized paver bricks to raise funds. It's a nice way to support the organization and remember a loved one.
